25 KV AC Traction was introduced for the first time in Indian Railways in the Dangoaposi section of CKP division during 1959. Consequent upon the electrification, electric locomotives imported from France (SNCF). Railways were inducted for hauling freight traffic. For the maintenance of these locomotives (WAG-1 Class locomotives). The electric loco shed, Tatanagar was established in the year 1962 under the supervision of SNCF Railway. Tata Electric Loco Shed then became the second loco shed of Indian Railway. The Shed started functioning with a holding of 69 locomotives. भारतीय रेल में 25 KV AC कर्षण की शुरुआत पहली बार सन 1959 में चक्रधरपुर रेल-मंडल स्थित डान्गोआपोसी सेक्सन में हुआ था. विद्युतिकरण के परिणामस्वरुप, विद्युत लोकोमोटिव का आयात फ्रांस देश (SNCF) से किया गया. रेलवे नें मुख्यतः माल-भाड़ा सेवा हेतु 25 KV AC कर्षण एवं विद्युत लोकोमोटिव का इस्तेमाल किया. फ्रांस (SNCF) की देख रेख में इन विद्युत लोकोमोटिव(WAG-1) के रखरखाव हेतु, टाटानगर विद्युत लोको शेड की स्थापना सन 1962 में की गयी. टाटानगर विद्युत लोको शेड भारतीय रेल का तब का दूसरा लोको शेड हुआ (आसनसोल पहला विद्युत्लोको शेड था). टाटा विद्युत लोको शेड नें अपने काम की शुरुआत 69 लोकोमोटिव की होल्डिंग के साथ की.
