INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY CENTRE


Role of I.T Centre

  • I.T Centre is involved in providing seamless LAN Services covering the whole of Kharagpur Workshop Campus including Stores, R-Yard and New Wagon Shop.
  • It takes care of the maintenance of the existing LAN infrastructure of the Kharagpur Workshop.
  • It is involved in upgradation of LAN infrastructure to cover all the respective shops and Offices for the implementation of WISE, E-Office, UDM and other Web based applications being used in Railway.
  • It is involved in augmentation of LAN bandwidth as per the requirements of Kharagpur Workshop. The LAN bandwidth has been augmented from 150 Mbps to 300 Mbps in March 2022.
  • IT Centre maintains the bi-lingual website of Kharagpur Workshop under ser.indianrailways.gov.in. It updates all the out-turn and latest happenings in the Workshop on a monthly basis.
  • I.T Centre also maintains IP address list and allots IP addresses to different systems as per the requirements.
  • I.T Centre is involved in providing assistance related to Software installation of Printers and other peripherals.
  • IT Centre is also providing assistance to various Booths for Biometric Attendance System by giving seamless LAN Internet connection.
  • IT centre has been entrusted with the upkeep of CCTVs in Kharagpur Workshop and streaming of selected CCTVs to Railway Board.

Achievement

  • As advised by CWM/KGPW, I.T Centre has developed an in-house Web-based application Software (WHEEL TRACKING SYSTEM) related to digitization of records of all the processes happening in all the sections of the Wheel Shop and the same has been hosted in one of the PCs of IT Centre and is in use since January 2023.
  • It can be accessed from any PC within the local area network of the Workshop. It can track wheels in and out of the Wheel Shop. It helps in reducing dependency on data maintained in registers.
