Ranchi Junction railway station, station code RNC, is the railway station serving the capital city of Ranchi in the Ranchi district in the Indian state of Jharkhand. Ranchi Station is also the headquarters of the Ranchi division of the South Eastern Railway. Zone of the Indian Railway. The Ranchi Junction railway station is connected to most of the major cities in India by the railway network. Ranchi has trains running frequently to Delhi, Kolkata and Patna. The city is a major railway hub and has four major stations: Ranchi Junction, Hatia Station, Tatisilwai Station and Namkom Station.

Following Chemicals are used during cleaning
Muriatic Acid, Sentrolla Liquid ( To be used with mechanized mopper), Colin 1 Lit bottle with spray nozzle, High power detergent (Liquid), EZE clean liquid, Bleaching Powder, Disinfectant Fluid, Odonil, Harpic, Naphthalene Balls, Room Air Freshener, Soap Bar, Liquid Soap etc.
Action plan for maintaining /improving cleanliness at stations
- The integrated mechanized cleaning is already in operation which includes rag picking between home signals in the tracks and platform lines.
- Attendance of contractual staff is done through biometric attendance system and frequent checks by inspecting officials are also done.
- Real time Monitoring of cleaning through CCTV Camera is being done at Ranchi Station apart from inspecting officials.
- Specific format for daily activity of station cleaning and surrounding as defined in the contract is being filled up daily by the agency jointly with CHI, CCI & SMR at Ranchi. Penalties are defined in the contract and imposed on the score of this filled up form.
- In Compliance to Plastic and Solid Waste Management Rules-2016 at the stations including track within station limit (collection and segregation of biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste and their disposal etc.), 40 Pairs of dustbins will be provided at Ranchi station.
- Green rating of Ranchi station as done at Guwahati station has been initiated.
- Special Task force for removal of encroachment has been formed. Regular monitoring of encroachment is being done.
- All 456 nos. encroachments have been removed in the year 2018-19.
- All sorts of assistance are being provided by RPF during removal of un-authorized encroachment.
- The major encroachment of a Hanuman Temple and one Durga Pandal at Ranchi station circulating area have been recently removed in last two months.
- No New encroachment reported in the year 2018-19 till date.
- Effluent is being discharged through a network of drains at Ranchi station and its circulating area into municipal drain.ETP (Effluent Treatment Plant) has been planned for Ranchi station.
- The alternate source of energy using Solar panels on roof of Ranchi station will be provided.
- One E-Toilet has been commissioned for public use at PF no.1 at Ranchi Station. Conversion of existing toilets in the Waiting Room to Bio – toilets / Eco-toilets will be done. Construction of one Pay & Use toilet (Ultra Modern Toilets Complex) has been started at new parking area on North side of Ranchi station. Bio – Toilets has been commissioned on the 2nd entry side of Ranchi station. Proper access road to 2nd entry side of Ranchi station to be constructed and commissioned by State Government as planned jointly with Railways.
- One bottle crushing machine has been installed at PF no. 1 at Ranchi station.
- The plastic bags and cups are already banned at Ranchi station.
- Regular monitoring is being done through CCTV cameras and by inspecting officials.
- Weekly meeting will be held for effective implementation and management.
- Provision for taking suggestion and grievance for eco-smart station RNC-RNC has been created on public webpage of SER (ecosmart.stn@ser.railnet.gov.in).
- The rodent and pest control element of work is included in the mechanized cleaning contract pertaining to Ranchi station.
- Waste water is being discharged through system of drains into municipal drain. Individual septic tanks are available for sewage. One Water Re-cycling Plant will be provided.
- Moreover, two rain water harvesting systems have been put in place covering entire Ranchi station and circulating area to trap and collect the rain water and recharge the ground water.
- 1.06 lakh saplings have been planted till 31.12.2018 across the division out of which 2425 nos. saplings were planted at Ranchi.
- Green grass cover has been laid on all the footpaths in the circulating area and a green carpet along with plantation of trees has also been done in front of the station building in it’s entire length.
- Plantation of 250 trees is being planned in the ensuing monsoon.
- Regular announcement at stations through Public Address system for public awareness campaign.
- Screening of audio/videos relating to cleanliness and anti littering uses of dustbins avoiding plastics etc. is being done.
- Water audit of RNC station has been conducted. The requirement of water has
- been assessed as 1879 KL per day and the same is being supplied.
- Energy audit of Ranchi station has been done and the recommendations have been implemented.
- There are 82 Cameras installed in Ranchi station covering the concourse & platforms for monitoring of littering and a fine of Rs. 500/- is imposed on people identified of littering.
Clarification on “Polluter Pays” Principle and “Municipal Solid Waste Rules, 2016” “Polluter Pays” principle may be implemented in situations where any person is found indulged in throwing/dumping garbage, waste including C & D waste, channelizing effluent, any other activity on railway land leading to damage the environment and result in pollution ( air, water and soil etc.) in such a situation, the compensation may be collected up to Rs. 5000/- as directed by Hon’ble Tribunal vide order dt. 18.03.15.
