STORES DEPARTMENT


Organisation of Stores department can be divided under three major categories -
  • Headquarter - Situated at Garden Reach, Kolkata, this is the administrative and purchase office of the entire zone. Principal Material Manager (PCMM) who heads the organisation and the four Chief Material managers (CMM) who overlook the major administrative and purchase works have their offices at headquarters. They are supported by nine Deputy Chief Material Managers(Dy.CMM) who look after purchase of specific groups of items. Dy.CMM's are in turn supported by three Senior Material Managers(SMM) and four Assistant Material Managers(AMM).
  • Depots - There are twenty five different functional depots across South Eastern Railways where materials are received, stored and issued. Out of these, eight depots are in Kharagpur, three in Bondamunda, three in Bokaro Steel City, two in Tatanagar and Santragachi, one each at Ranchi, Adra, Chakradharpur, Sini, Tikiapara, Garden Reach and Rourkella. The New Carriage Depot at Kharagpur and the New General Stores Depot at Kharagpur are the two largest depots of South Eastern Railways. Depending on the size, these depots are headed by Dy.CMM, SMM or AMM. 
  • Divisions - South Eastern Railways has four division - Ranchi, Adra, Chakradharpur and Kharagpur. Every division has Senior Divisional Material Manager(Sr.DMM) for looking after divisional requirement of materials. The scrap sales is also looked after at the divisional level.

The organisation at all the three levels is supported by a large number of dedicated staffs. The Depot Material Superintendent (DMS) cadre is the backbone of field work while Office Superintendent (OS) cadre is the backbone of office work.
