SER EXTENDS ITS ALL OUT EFFORTS TO ARRANGE
FOOD & RATION FOR NEEDY AND POOR PEOPLE
Kolkata, 15thApril, 2020:
South Eastern Railway has taken major initiatives to provide food support to the less fortunate, daily wage earner and helpless people of the society during the ongoing lockdown in the wake of COVID-19 Pandemic. Various departments of SER along with RPF personnel and volunteers of Civil Defence, St. John Ambulance Brigade and SER Bharat Scouts & Guides have joined hands to help in distribution of food, lunch packets, dry ration comprising of rice, pulses, potato and other edible items to poor and needy people residing near and outside railway areas.
Since the beginning of lockdown period, South Eastern Railway has distributed 1,34,754 meals till 14th April, 2020 to the needy and poor people of the society residing nearby and outside its headquarters at Kolkata and four divisions viz. Kharagpur, Adra, Ranchi and Chakradharpur. Foods have also been distributed through the field units of SER over its jurisdiction and employees are also distributing foods at their personal level to the needy and poor people.IRCTC has also joined hands in this philanthropic effort for distribution of food. This distribution amongst the poor and needy people has been done adopting adequate safety measures and social distancing.
Today (15th April, 2020)officers and staff of SER headquarters have also distributed 250 ration packets consisting of Rice, Pulses, Potatoes, onions, Edible Oil, Biscuit etc. near its Headquarters, Garden Reach with the assistance of local administration.
Apart from ensuring uninterrupted supply of essential commodities by running of Freight Trains and Time Tabled Parcel Trains during this crisis period, South Eastern Railway is playing a vital role to fulfil its social commitments and responsibilities.
