Kolkata, 9th April, 2016:

The 36th Annual Conference and Continuing Medical Education(CME) Programme o­n the theme “Critical Care in the 21stCentury” organized by  Indian Railway Medical Service Association(IRMSA) of South Eastern Railway was inaugurated today(09.04.16) at S. E. Railway Central Hospital, Garden Reach.

Dr. Anil Kumar, Director General, Railway Health Services, Railway Board inaugurated the programme this morning(09.04.16) while Shri A.K.Goel, General Manager, S. E. Railway presided over the function.Shri Anirban Datta, Additional General Manager, South Eastern Railway, Dr. B.Sonowal, Chief Medical Director, South Eastern Railway, Dr. Rupa Mitra, Medical Director, S.E.Railway and other senior doctors and railway officers were present at the inaugural ceremony.

Dr Anil Kumar, Director General, Railway Health Services, while inaugurating the programme  said that with advancement of technology and use of modern equipments, the concept of critical care has changed. He expressed hope that the conference will help the doctors to get acquainted with newer aspects of medicine to utilize their knowledge for the benefit of the patients. He stressed o­n team work involving doctors and paramedical staff to fulfill the expectation of the patients in providing critical care. In this connection he also spoke about the importance of creating awareness among each and every citizen to help the victims.

Sri A.K.Goel, General Manager, S.E.Railway expressed hope that the conference would provide the right platform to all the participating doctors to discuss the ways and means of reaching the recent advancements in critical care and its application to the patients. He said that SER Central Hospital is providing 24x7 emergency service and all steps are being taken to provide quality health care and specialized treatment. He added that the theme of the conference is highly relevant in present day context and exchange of views among the expert doctors will help in their academic enrichment to tackle the life threatening situations.

More than 60 delegate doctors from all over Indian Railways including eminent physicians of Kolkata are attending the two-day conference involving panel discussion, lectures and symposium o­n different medical subjects viz. Management of Burn, Intervention in Acute Coronary Syndrome, Prevention of Ventilator Associated Pneumonia, High Risk Pregnancy, Recent Management of Hepatitis C, Cardiac Pacing-New Advancement, Recent Development in Critical Care, Cardiac Surgery, Lupus Nephropathy, Management of Diabetes in high risk patients, Upper GI Haemorrhage etc.


 Dr.B.Sonowal, Chief Medical Director, South Eastern Railway welcomed the distinguished guests and delegates and said that the conference will surely help the doctors to update their knowledge and skill through exchange of views to provide improved critical care service to the patients.
