SER CELEBRATES 75th INDEPENDENCE DAY

Kolkata, 16thAugust, 2021:

The 75th Independence Day was celebrated at South Eastern Railway Headquarters, Garden Reach with due solemnity.

 

Ms. Archana Joshi, General Manager, South Eastern Railway hoisted the National Flag and took salute at the ceremonial parade presented by the contingents of Railway Protection Force and Civil Defence Personnel.

Speaking o­n the occasion, Ms. Archana Joshi said that in 2020-21, S E Railway loaded 175.80 million tonnes of freight which was 2.23% more than the freight loading of 2019-20. This was the highest ever loading achieved by this railway since its trifurcation in 2003. With a view to accelerate passenger train service, maximum speed limit of LHB trains has been increased to 130 kmph in Andul-Kharagpur-Tatanagar-Jharsuguda section. In order to enhance the safety and provide more amenities to the passengers, construction work of 27 Road Over Bridges and 35 Foot Over Bridges is going o­n in full swing in different places. Moreover, platform raising work is also being carried out at 15 stations in SER jurisdiction. Ms. Joshi added that SE Railway is determined to implement Vision-2024 of Hon’ble Railway Minister and all steps are being taken to achieve the targets in different fields.

Speaking about the achievements of S E Railway in Sports activities, General Manager mentioned about SER’s women employees who represented the Indian Olympic Team in Tokyo. She added that the performance of Nikki Pradhan and Salima Tete in Women’s Hockey and Sutirtha Mukherjee in Table Tennis has been praised by the entire nation and is a source of encouragement to the SE Railway family.

Speaking about the commendable role of the railway employees during the Covid-19 pandemic, General Manager said that in spite of the serious challenges, SE Railway’s staff & officers set an example by helping the needy passengers and citizens as much as possible.

The uninterrupted supply of the essential commodities was maintained throughout the nation following all the health protocols. During the second wave of the pandemic, SER arranged to run 246 Oxygen Express Trains carrying 18,700 tonnes of Liquid Medical Oxygen for the Covid affected patients in different parts of the country.SER also arranged to despatch around 1000 tonnes of Liquid Medical Oxygen to our neighbouring country, Bangladesh.

General Manager stated that Doctors, Nurses, hospital cleaning staff and other health care personnel of S E Railway hospitals have been working relentlessly to save the lives of the patients. Saluting the Covid warriors, General Manager said that Covid Wards have been set up at all railway hospitals and vaccination centres have also been opened for the vaccination of both railway employees as well as general public.

General Manager appealed to all staff and officers to take every possible step to achieve the targets of the current financial year set by Railway Board.

 The whole programme was organized maintaining health protocols and social distancing. A Tennis Court was also inaugurated by Ms. Archana Joshi, General Manager, S E Railway atSER Headquarters Complex, Garden Reach o­n the occasion of Independence Day.
