112 RAKES CONTAINING MORE THAN 2.68 LAKH TONNES OF FOOD GRAINS AND SALT HAVE REACHED KHARAGPUR DIVISION OF SER DURING THE o­nGOING CRISIS IN THE WAKE OF COVID-19

 

 

Kolkata, 5th August, 2020:

 

     

          South Eastern Railway has continued its endeavour to ensure transportation of food grains and other essential commodities through its freight services during nationwide lockdowns in the wake of COVID-19 pandemic. As per the guidelines given by the Ministry of Railways, SER has geared up its entire network for unabated movement of goods trains. During the period from 20th March to 31st July 2020, more than 2,68,128 lakh tonnes of food grains and salt have been unloaded from 112  food rakes which arrived at different stations and sidings of Kharagpur Division of South Eastern Railway. Altogether 1,46,034 tonnes of wheat was unloaded from 61 rakes and 1,02,942 tonnes of rice was unloaded from 43 rakes. Moreover, 19,152 tonnes of salt was unloaded from 8 rakes.

 

The rakes were unloaded at different locations of Kharagpur Division of South Eastern Railway viz. Midnapur, Kalaikunda, Kharagpur, Rupsa, Sankrail Goods Terminal Yard etc. during the period from 20th March to 31st July 2020. The concerned staff of South Eastern Railway have been working at various stations and goods sheds for safe unloading and loading of food grains and essential commodities. Security persons have also been deployed for security of food grains and other commodities.
