Kolkata 18.10.13

The menu and tariff of catering services for Rajdhani & Shatabdi Express trains were last revised in the year 1999. The catering charges for Duronto trains have not been revised since they were introduced on the Indian Railways.

As per the current Railway board directives, South Eastern Railway has revised the catering charges of Duronto Trains run by this railway w.e.f 17.10.13. These Duronto trains are as follows :-

12245/46 Howrah - Yeswantpur Duronto Express

12222/21 Howrah – Pune Duronto Express

12262/61 Howrah – Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus Mumbai (CSTM) Duronto Express

12847/48 Howrah – Digha Duronto Express

The increase was considered necessary because the cost of raw materials used for catering has increased many times since 1999.

The salient features of the new catering menu & tariff are given as under :-

Introduction of cyclic menus for ensuring variety of items in the meals & snacks. Seasonal variations in the cyclic menu will be undertaken after every 3 months so as to include seasonal varieties of vegetables and fruits.

Concept of COMBO MEAL : This concept has been introduced in train journeys where the 2nd regular (major) meal of the day is involved. In the combo meal there will be two major items which will take care of the entire meal. However, if in the same journey, a 3rd meal is involved, then it shall be a regular meal.

With the revision in the cost and rationalization of menu, there will be an appreciable improvement in the quality of food, packaging and presentation.

Despite the revision, the First AC passengers of three trains will actually have to pay less catering charges after 17.10.13. These are :-

12245 & 12246 Howrah- Yeswantpur - Howrah Duronto (From Rs. 551 to Rs 515) (ii) 12222 Howrah Pune Duronto (From Rs 485 to Rs 460) and (iii) 12262 Howrah CSTM Duronto (From Rs 485 to Rs 460). However, in the First AC Class of other Durontos run by South Eastern Railway, there has been a fare hike from Rs 9 to Rs 30.

As far as 2AC and 3AC classes are concerned the increase will be as follows :-

12245/46 – Earlier Rs 367 ; Now Rs 455

12222 – Earlier Rs 323; Now Rs 405

12221 – Earlier Rs 323; now Rs 425

12262 – Earlier Rs 323; Now Rs 405

12261 – Earlier Rs 323; Now Rs 425

12847 – Earlier Rs 88 ; Now Rs. 125

12848 – Earlier Rs 44 ; Now Rs 45.
