SER ENSURES UNINTERRUPTED SUPPLY OF ESSENTIAL COMMODITIES TO FULFILL THE DEMANDS OF THE SOCIETY
Kolkata, 14th April, 2020:
During the lockdown period, it is necessary to break the chain of Coronavirus and people have been advised to stay inside their home and not to venture out. Though Passenger Train Services have been suspended but goods and parcel trains are on run to ensure uninterrupted supply of essential commodities. Both parcel and goods trains are crisscrossing the country in order to transport the essential items from one place to another and keep the supply chain steady.
By running of Time Tabled Parcel Trains, South Eastern Railway's terminal stations have so far handled around 809 tons of traffic which includes 129 tons of Eggs, 343 tons of Milk, 30 Tons of Ghee, 20 Tons of Fish, 79 Tons of vegetables & fruits, 182 tons of hard parcel and also around 12 tons of COVID-19 related items and medicines. In addition to above, Mushroom, Garlic, Grocery items etc. have also been transported to fulfil the demand of every segment of the society.
These items mainly arrived in West Bengal from stations like Secunderabad, Yesvantpur, Chennai, Vijayawada, Khurda Road, Ahmedabad, Anand, Mumbai, Nagpur, Bilaspur to name a few.
On the other hand, since the start of lockdown period,approx 60 tons of materials have been sent to various places like Bilaspur, Nagpur, Vijayawada and Bengaluru mainly consisting of 22 tons of Betel Leaves, 3 tons of COVID-19 related items, 7 tons of fish and vegetables and other hard parcels weighing 29 tons.
In order to maintain the supply chain intact, SER’s Parcel Offices along with drivers, guards and other concerned employees are working round-the-clock with adequate precautionary measures so that the 'Life Line' keeps on transporting the essential commodities to every nook and corner of the country.
