Kolkata, 20thMarch, 2020:

South Eastern Railway has geared up its entire machinery to take comprehensive measures for prevention of CORONA VIRUS (COVID-19) infection. Elaborate measures and awareness campaigns have been undertaken throughout SER’s jurisdiction over its four divisions viz. The following expeditious actions have been taken by this railway in order to mitigate the impact of the outbreak of CORONA VIRUS.

·SER has set up 1000 (approx) quarantine beds in the railway’s 4 divisions. 80 isolation beds have been prepared to combat the pandemic coronavirus in this railway’s 7 hospitals. If situation demands, this may be extended to the general public. 18 Fever Clinics are operational at different railway hospitals.

·Posters, banners, stickers and leaflets on “Do’s & Don’ts” have been prepared and distributed at various places like offices, stations, railway colonies and trains for mass awareness of railwaymen and passengers.

·Announcements through public address system are being made frequently at all stations over SER jurisdiction in different languages regarding precautions to be taken to prevent the spread of Covid-19. Videos are being shown at major stations to create awareness among passengers.

·Curtains and blankets used in AC coaches in all trains of SER have been removed in order to prevent propagation of COVID-19. The temperature settings of the AC compartments are being suitably adjusted so that requirement of blanket is not felt necessary.

·Appeals have been made to passengers to avoid non essential train journeys and to ensure that they do not have fever while they are commencing their journeys. If at any point of the journey, a passenger feels having fever, should immediately contact the railway staff for medical attention and further assistance.

·Help Desk at major stations in association with State Government are being made available.

·Intensive cleaning and sanitization of coaches is being undertaken with special attention on door handles, lavatory latches, water tap knobs, snacks tables etc. at all Coach Maintenance Depots over SER.

·Spraying of disinfectant is being done inside the coaches i.e handles, seats, floor, panels etc. of local trains.

·Offices of SER are being sanitized by spraying disinfectants. Special Awareness Programmes for the railway employees have also been arranged.

·Mock Drills have been arranged at Headquarters and in all the four divisions of SER to assess the preparedness to tackle any situation.

·Thermal Scanning is being arranged at major stations of SER.

·As a measure towards the concept of social distancing, trains with low occupancy are being cancelled. Cancellation of trains is being done keeping in view the availability of alternate trains for passengers and ensuring that no passenger remains stranded.

·Steps have been taken to implement social distancing in stations and ticket booking offices.

·Special EMU Locals are being run in Howrah-Kharagpur Suburban Section both during peak hours and non peak hours to avoid overcrowding in local trains.
