SPECIAL DRIVE “OPERATION THUNDER” CONDUCTS AGAINST RAILWAY TICKETING TOUTS IN SOUTH EASTERN RAILWAY AND OTHER ZONES OF INDIAN RAILWAYS
Kolkata, 14th June, 2019:
This is the peak season for the railway passenger due to summer vacation s and season for marriages in North India. It was reliably learnt that anti social elements misusing the e-ticketing, tatkal seva etc. were selling rail tickets on higher rates adopting fraudulent means. They were also reportedly received the facility given for common passenger in IRCTC website, depriving the benefited passengers of availability of railway tickets.
InSouth Eastern Railway, RPF personnel were conducted special raids “Operation Thunder” against ticketing touts on 13thJune, 2019 in fifteen places of ten districts within the covering three states viz. Sundergarh (Odisha), Jharsughda (Odisha), East Singhbhum (Jharkhand), Bokaro (Jharkhand), Bankura (West Bengal), Ranchi (Jharkhand), West Midnapur (West Bengal), East Midnapur (West Bengal), Balasore (Odisha) and Howrah (West Bengal). 26 cases were registered and 27 ticketing touts were arrested. 2,019 numbers of future journey ticketswere seizedincluding e-tickets amounting to Rs.1,47,042/- and past journey tickets were also seized value to Rs.15,12,519/-.
An All India Drive launched with the help of technical and IT Cell, identifying all suspecting agents by DG/RPF Sri Arun Kumar. A detailed work plan was prepared after collecting indulgence about the activities of these suspected agents. It was decided to conduct raids all over the country on the same day and time. Field officers were instructed to verify the information before raids. Yesterday on 13th June, under “Operation Thunder” 276 places in 141 cities were raided by various RPF teams across the country.

Ø387 touts were found to be involved in this illegal business.
Ø22,253 tickets valued at Rs.32,99,093/- on which the journey was supposed to be undertaken have been seized.
ØIn preliminary enquiry it has been found that these touts have done such illegal sale of tickets valued at Rs.3,24,12,706/-.
ØAll suspected user Ids have been black listed and the tickets are being deactivated.
ØIllegal software ANMS/Red Mirchi has been seized from Kota, Rajasthan.
Ø375 cases have been registered with the arrest of 387 persons.
