A seminar o­n “Green Initiatives & Environmental Sustainability” was held at S E Railway Headquarters, Garden Reach this morning (29/5/2019).


Sri P S Mishra, General Manager, South Eastern Railway initiated the seminar while Sri A K Tewari, Principal Executive Director, EnHM, Railway Board and Sri Anupam Sharma, Addl. General Manager attended the seminar along with other senior officers from headquarters and divisions.


The main objective of this seminar is to have healthy communities and for this we need clean air, natural resources and non-toxic environment. General Manager, Sri Mishra mentioned that railway people are committed to make the railway stations and trains visibly clean to provide utmost comfort to the passengers. General Manager spoke o­n the seminar that S E Railway has taken initiatives to upgrade 21 stations as Eco Smart Stations. Out of 21, upgradation work at Ranchi and Digha stations have been completed. Sri A K Tewari, Principal Executive Director, EnHM, Railway Board elucidated the necessity of Eco Smart Stations under plan of “ Green Railway Stations Rating System”.


Sri J K Saha, Principal Chief Mechanical Engineer, S E Railway apprised the General Manager, Principal Executive Director, EnHM, Railway Board and other Principal Head of Departments about the SER’s initiatives regarding cleanliness, afforestation & plantation, setting of LED lights, solar system panel, bottle crushing machine, recycling of water, ban o­n plastic tea cups, promoting alternative source of energy etc. in stations and in railway premises.


The seminar concluded with the hope of prospect for green and clean environment in all stations, trains and railway premises in near future.
