REMARKABLE GROWTH IN SER’S PASSENGER TRAFFIC AND EARNINGS

Kolkata, 4th April, 2013.

 

During the financial year 2012-13 which has just ended, South Eastern Railway has achieved a record growth in passenger traffic by carrying 271.12 million passengers as against 262.90 million passengers carried in the previous financial year, i.e. 2011-12. Thus, there has been a growth of 8.22 million passengers i.e. 3.13%.

 

Out of total 271.12 million passengers carried during 2012-13 by S.E.Railway, the number of suburban passengers was 128.62 million as compared to 122.89 million in 2011-12. The number of non-suburban passengers in 2012-13 was 142.50 million as compared to 140.01 million in 2011-12.

 

Earnings from passenger traffic have recorded a big jump of 11.04% during the financial year 2012-13 in comparison to the previous financial year. During 2012-13, SER has earned Rs.1245.25 crores from passenger traffic as against Rs.1121.48 crores earned from passenger sector during the previous financial year. Out of the total passenger earnings of Rs.1245.25 crores, earnings from suburban passengers were Rs.58.06 crores (increase of 19.42% over last year) while earnings from non-suburban passengers were Rs.1187.19 crores (increase of 10.66% over last year).
