GROWTH IN SER’s FREIGHT TRAFFIC

During the first ten months of the current financial year i.e. April-January of 2018-19, South Eastern Railway has earned Rs. 10385.55 crores from originating freight traffic which is Rs.449.90 crores more than the corresponding period of last year i.e. 2017-18 thus registering a growth of about 4.53 %.
This growth in freight earnings has been possible due to increase in freight loading during the above period. The Coal loading during April to January of the current financial year has been 31% more than the corresponding period of last financial year and 9 % more than the target fixed by Railway Board. The major components of freight loading during the above period were 67.03 million tonnes of Iron Ore, 28.16 million tonnes of Coal, 12.88 million tonnes of Pig-Iron & Finished Steel, 9.36 million tonnes of Cement etc.
South Eastern Railway’s total freight loading during April-January of the current financial year has been 127.26 million tonnes as against 124.84 million tonnes loaded during the corresponding period of last year recording a growth of around 2%.
