SER ENSURES MORE SAFETY FOR TRAVELLING PUBLIC
BY ELIMINATION OF ALL UNMANNED LEVEL CROSSINGS

South Eastern Railway has taken a number of initiatives during the last 4 years to ensure safety of rail and road users. The most remarkable achievement in this regard has been the elimination of all Unmanned Level Crossings in the jurisdiction of S.E.Railway under the leadership of Hon’ble Minister of Raillways, Shri Piyush Goyal.
It was observed that majority of death cases in Railway accidents occurred at unmanned level crossings. South Eastern Railway formulated a Safety Action Plan to eliminate Unmanned Level Crossings through various measures viz. Construction of Limited Height Subways, suitable Road Diversions, Manning of unmanned level crossings and their Closure.
During the last four and half years, South Eastern Railway has eliminated altogether 749 Unmanned Level Crossings in its jurisdiction. The work of elimination of unmanned Level Crossings has been completed on 25th September, 2018 ahead of the target date.
The following measures have been adopted to eliminate the 749 Unmanned Level Crossings of S.E.Railway in the last four and half years:
Construction of Limited Height Subways
Construction of Diversion Road
Closure of Unmanned Level Crossings
Manning of Unmanned Level Crossings
To prevent accidents at Level Crossing Gates, awareness campaigns are regularly organised by SER. Importance has also been given to level crossing safety with round the clock monitoring system.Elimination of Unmanned Level Crossings has yielded substantial operational benefits including maintaining speed limit of trains without detention. Cooperation of road and rail users along with elimination of all Unmanned Level Crossings over SER’s jurisdiction will ensure more safety and punctuality.
