INITIATIVES TAKEN BY RAILWAY PROTECTION FORCE OF SER

TO ENSURE SAFE JOURNEY OF WOMEN PASSENGERS

 

Kolkata, 28th November, 2024

 

Railway Protection Force of South Eastern Railway is playing a significant role in providing security of rail travellers as well as in guarding the railway property and its vital installations. Safety and security of women passengers has always been an important concern of South Eastern Railway. In this regard, various initiatives like ‘Meri Saheli’, ‘Matri Shakti’, ‘Matangini’ etc have been taken by SER’s Railway Protection Force.The objective behind such initiatives is to ensure a safe journey for women passengers, particularly those travelling by long-distance trains.

Operation “MeriSaheli”

The ‘Meri Saheli’ teams, operating across the Railway network, have been offering assistance and security to countless women traveling alone by long-distance trains. To ensure a hassle free journey for lady passengers ‘Meri Saheli’ teams have been deployed at all the important stations over SER andMeri Saheli' squad of SER is proactive throughout the Zone and presently escorting 115 trains. Drives are also conducted against unauthorized travel in Ladies’ Coaches.

Operation “Matrishakti”

Operation Matri Shakti is an initiative to provide timely assistance to pregnant women passengers during their journey. Team Matri Shakti remain alert to ensure well being of pregnant mothers travelling in trains. Assistance has been provided to 13 numbers of pregnant women passengers in child birth during 2023 and 05 numbers of pregnant women passengers in child birth upto October 2024.
