SOUTH EASTERN RAILWAY  RAN 160 TRIPS OF SPECIAL TRAINS

DURING CHHAT PUJA

To ensure safe journey for people travelling to their hometowns to celebrate the Chhath Puja, South Eastern Railway arranged 36 pairs of Festival special trains towards different directions of the country. Altogether 160 trips of Special trains were run to clear the rush of passengers. SER has planned the Special trains much ahead of the festival and continued to run the Specials even a few days after the festival to manage the flow of returning passengers. In SER jurisdiction, the Special trains were run from Santragachi towards Patna, Mumbai, Chennai, Puri, Secunderabad, Ajmer, Pune etc. From Shalimar the trains were run towards Chennai, Tirunelveli, Secunderabad, Bhanjpur, Visakhapatnam, Bengaluru etc. Special trains were run from Ranchi towards Madar, Purnia Court, Gorakhpur, Jaynagar, Anand Vihar etc. From Tatanagar the trains were run towards Buxar and Katihar. Special trains were also run from Bhanjpur towards Puri and Shalimar.

Apart from running Special trains and augmenting regular trains by extra coaches, SER has also made special arrangements at stations for the festive rush. Crowd controlling measures by forming queue at the terminus stations under the supervision of RPF staff for orderly entry of passengers in unreserved coaches were being ensured. Additional RPF personnel were deployed at major stations to enhance security of passengers. Officials were also deployed o­n Emergency Duty at major stations to ensure smooth running of trains. Frequent and timely announcement of arrival/departure of trains with platform numbers were made. "May I Help You" booths were kept operational at important stations where RPF Personnel and TTES were deputed for proper assistance and guidance of the passengers. Medical Teams were available at major stations o­n call. Instructions had been issued for maintaining cleanliness at waiting halls, retiring rooms, platforms and station premises.

These special efforts of Railways were made to ensure that lakhs of passengers could reach their destinations comfortably.

For the Durga Pooja/Diwali/Chhath rush 2024, total 7,663 special train services have been notified between 1st October 2024 to 30th November 2024 by Indian Railways. In the same period last year 4,429 trips were operated. This is 73% more than last year.

Indian Railway fulfilled the transport demand of 957.24 lakh non suburban passengers (in reserved and unreserved segment) during Diwali/Chhath 2024 (24th October to 4th November) as compared to 923.33 lakh passengers in the corresponding period last year (5th November to 16th November 2023). Therefore, 33.91 lakh more passengers travelled in 2024 as compared to 2023. Total 120.72 lakh (19.43 lakh reserved and 101.29 unreserved non-suburban passengers were carried o­n 4th November, 2024. This is the highest single day passengers figures for the current year.

More than Australian and New Zealand population had been carried by Indian Railways in 24 hrs time. 65 lakh passengers had been facilitated by Railways during 1st of October to 5th of November through special trains. Approx 7.5 ccore passengers carried to Blhar, East UP and Jharkhad during 1st of October to 5th of November through schedule and special trains. o­n 04/11/2024 highest noor of passengers carried by Indian Railways in a single day time. 120.72 lakh (19.43 lakh reserved and 101.29 unreserved non-suburban) passengers were carried o­n 4th November, 2024.
