SOUTH EASTERN RAILWAY CELEBRATES 80^th INDEPENDENCE DAY

Kolkata, 15^th August, 2026:

The 80^th Independence Day was celebrated at South Eastern Railway Headquarters, Garden Reach with due solemnity. Shri Anil Kumar Jain, General Manager, South Eastern Railway hoisted the National Flag and took salute at the ceremonial parade presented by the contingents of Railway Protection Force, Civil Defence, St. John Ambulance Brigade and Bharat Scouts & Guides. o­n the Independence Day, the General Manager conveyed his greetings to all.

General Manager stated that SER celebrated the “Har Ghar Tiranga” campaign which is dedicated to the spirit of 150 years of Vande Mataram.All railway employees of South Eastern Railway are actively participating in the “Har Ghar Tiranga” campaign from 9^th to 17^th August, 2026.

[[Highlighting the achievements of SER in recent times, General Manager said that during the financial year 2025-26, SER achieved a commendable loading of 210.41 million tonnes of freight. General Manager added that in order to increase operational capacity, 53km of doubling/3rd line work has been completed since the last financial year and upto July, 2026.

General Manager stated that with a view to provide more amenities to the passengers, 23 Foot Oberbridges, 21 lifts and 19 escalators have been commissioned at various stations since the last financial year and upto July, 2026. These apart, raising of height at 26 platforms, increase in length of 19 platforms have been completed and 255 platform sheds have been provided at 55 stations since the last financial year and upto July, 2026. During the current financial year, 413 special trains have been run to clear the extra rush of the passengers.

He saidthatsafety of passengers is of paramount importance and SER has completed the construction work of 11 Road Over Bridges and 33 Underbridges since the last financial year and upto July, 2026. Moreover, 33 level crossings have been eliminated since the last financial year and upto July, 2026.

Presently 14 pairs of Vande Bharat Express trains are running over SER jurisdiction. He added that 72 stations of SER are being developed under Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, work of 18 stations have been completed and 54 stations are under progress.

Mentioning the special efforts of RPF, General Manager stated that "Operation Nanhe Farishtey" campaign is being operational. RPF personnel of South Eastern Railway in "Operation Jeevan Raksha", saved the precious lives of 40 passengers by risking their own lives and also rescued 1781 child  from trains and stations since the last financial year and upto July, 2026. He also stated that South Eastern Railway was conducted Under the 100 Days TB-Free India Campaign, 204 different programmes were successfully organised from 24 March, 2026 to 30 June, 2026.Similarly, during the 8th Poshan Pakhwada, 237 awareness and public welfare activities were organised, benefiting 12,509 participants.

A cultural programme o­n patriotic theme was organised o­n the occasion. The programme was presented by the SER Headquarters Cultural Team and members of SER Bharat Scouts and Guides. Independence Day was also celebrated at the Divisional Offices at Kharagpur, Adra, Chakradharpur and Ranchi.
