PRESS RELEASE
SOUTH EASTERN RAILWAY REGISTERS RECORD SERAP DISPOSAL PERFORMANCE - LEADS ALL ZONAL RAILWAYS
Kolkata, 3rd August, 2026
South Eastern Railway has continued its outstanding performance in scrap disposal during the current financial year by achieving a record scrap sale of ₹201.20 Crore during the first four months (April-July 2026). This is the highest-ever scrap sale achieved by South Eastern Railway during the April-July period of any financial year.
The revenue earned from scrap disposal is 31.85% higher than that achieved during the corresponding period of the previous financial year and 57.80% above the proportionate target for the period. With this achievement, South Eastern Railway is presently leading among all Zonal Railways in scrap disposal revenue and has become the first and only Zonal Railway to cross the 2200 crore mark during the first four months of the current financial year.
Scrap disposal is a priority area for Indian Railways as it not only generates substantial revenue but also supports the Government's Swachhta Abhiyan by ensuring cleaner railway premises, better utilization of railway assets and improved operational efficiency.
This remarkable achievement has been possible under the guidance of General Manager, South Eastern Railway, Shri A. K. Jain, who has consistently emphasized the vision of achieving "Zero Scrap" across South Eastern Railway by October 2026.
In line with this vision, the Stores Department has undertaken a comprehensive zone-wide mapping and mopping exercise to identify segregate and dispose of accumulated scrap lying in depots, workshops, sheds and other railway establishments. As a result of these sustained efforts, South Eastern Railway has already achieved "Zero Scrap" status at 15 scrap-generating units up to July 2026.
South Eastern Railway remains committed to sustaining this momentum and achieving its target of making all identified scrap-generating units scrap-free by October 2026. These initiatives will continue to strengthen operational efficiency, improve housekeeping standards, optimize asset utilization and contribute significantly to the revenues of Indian Railways.
