The Commercial Department is responsible for the marketing & sale of the transportation services provided by the Railway, creating and developing traffic, securing and maintaining friendly relations with the travelling and trading public and for cultivating good public relations generally. 

The significance increases more when the Division is located at the capital city of Jharkhand having stake holders ranging from every strata of the society. The Commercial department with its tireless efforts, has continuously been improving the experience of rail users. The Department is providing services at 55 stations of the Division. The Department has also taken efforts to proliferate easy accessibility of ticketing services by introducing YTSK at the district cities of Ranchi and Ramgarh. We have also established India Post PRS at Ranchi GPO and Simdega. Enhancing the ticketing experience, the Division has launched UTS on Mobile App across all the stations which not only save the time to form queue at the ticket counters but also serve to get contact less services in this era of COVID-19 pandemic. 

It has always been our endeavour to improve the passenger amenities and facilities. Recently, PF No-1 & 1A of Ranchi Railway Station has been raised and refurbished with provision of lift facility and new Parcel Office with warehouse facility. The first class waiting room at Ranchi Station has been renovated and expanded with significant increase in seating capacity. An ultra modern toilet complex has also been provided at this station. The circulating area and the main building has been re-developed keeping in view its status as a capital city preserving its unique culture and ethos. Similarly, new Retiring Room and Dormitory have been provided at Ramgarh to develop hospitality services for the pilgrims visiting the Rajrappa Shaktipeeth. The Department is also providing Retiring Rooms and Dormitory facilities at Ranchi & Hatia. Further, all the stations of the Division have been provided with toilets, waiting rooms, ramps for Divyangjan, water booths, fans, FOBs, PF sheds and other passenger amenities items. Battery operated E-Rickshaws have been provided at Ranchi and Hatia stations for the benefit of senior citizens and Divyangjans.  We are also actively engaging with Divisional Railway Users Consultative Committee for feedback and improvement in our services. 

The Department is also facilitating the freight requirement of the Ranchi region. Major industries like, M/s. Hindalco Indus. Ltd. at Muri and Lohardaga, HEC, CCL, Brahmputra Metallic Pvt. Ltd., Usha Martin Ltd. are being provided with freight services of the Railways. The Department has launched an initiative with the Business Development Unit to interact with our freight partners and develop mutually beneficial freight traffic.
