GM/SER FLAGS OFF WALK-A-THON o­n NATIONAL CLEANLINESS CAMPAIGN UNDER “SWACHH BHRART MISSION”

Kolkata, 2nd October, 2015

Shri Radhey Shyam, General Manager, South Eastern Railway, flagged off Walk-a-thon o­n the auspicious occasion of Gandhi Jayanti (2nd October) at the S E Railway Headquarters Garden Reach as a part of National Cleanliness Campaign under ‘Swachh Bharat Mission’, commenced o­n and from 25th September, 2015 all over Indian Railways.

On the occasion, General Manager administered the Swachh Bharat –Cleanliness Pledge amongst all staff and officers, attended the function. Shri D.Kamilla, Additional General Manager, South Eastern Railway and principal head of the departments and a huge number of staff & officers working in SER HQs turned up to take the cleanliness pledge and took active part in cleanliness drive.The General Manager along with a large gathering of railwaymen took part in a Walk-a-thon as a part of Cleanliness Drive in the office premises, the north and south colonies of SER Headquarters to promote ‘Swachh Rail, Swachh Bharat Mission’ focusing cleaner and healthier India.A mass gathering of SERailway Bharat Scouts and Guides, St.John Ambulance Brigade, Civil Defence, Railway Sports Persons displaying colourful placards and banners also joined the cleanliness drive to keep clean railway premises and railway colonies and to create awareness about maintenance of cleanliness.Before Walk-a-thon, General Manager also launched a ‘Swachh Rail- A Mission’ Web Page where various activities o­n cleanliness at stations, trains, railway premises etc. at Divisions and HQs would be available.

General Manager while talking to the Media persons said that o­n this auspicious occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, all the Railwaymen have taken pledge to make India clean. The prime object of the ‘Swachh Rail, Swachh Bharat Mission’ is to create sanitation facilities for all travelling public and rail users. He also laid top most priority o­n cleanliness of railway surroundings as a part of ‘Clean India Movement’ which is a continuous process.

This massive mass movement cleanliness campaign in the form of ‘Swachh Rail, Swachh Bharat’ is being organized at four Divisions of South Eastern Railway i.e. Kharagpur, Adra, Chakradharpur and Ranchi with active participation of large gathering of railwaymen and their families.Railway platforms at stations, trains, tracks, booking & parcel offices, carriage and wagon maintenance depot, loco sheds etc. are being brought under this massive cleanliness campaign spreading the message of cleaning every nook and corner of the railway areas and trains every time, every moment. This mass campaign and cleanliness drive would be done till 11th October, 2015 as a first phase all over SER jurisdiction.Day to day cleaning at railway premises , trains, toilets, awareness campaigns about cleanliness, sit and draw competition, skit/nukkad for passenger awareness, debates, seminars with the help of charitable and social organizations are being organized to reach out to the people in a large scale for the greater success of this cleanliness mission. Integrated cleaning has been taken up as a specialized activity which has included professional cleaning agencies, trained staff in the latest practices pervaded all the Divisions of South Eastern Railway.
