SER ORGANISES IRON ORE INDUSTRY DELEGATE MEET

AS A PART OF ITS FREIGHT BUSINESS INITIATIVE

Kolkata, Aug.19, 2015:

As a part of “TARGET” (Traffic Augmentation for Required Growth and Enhancement of Throughput)- Drive for Traffic augmentation with a focus o­n freight loading, completion of throughput works and plan of action and performance, South Eastern Railway is organizing seminars and meetings with representatives of different industries. The main objective of organizing such meet is to explore the possibilities of increasing railway’s originating freight loading by removing different obstacles faced by its freight customers. The second such meeting was held today (19.8.15) at SER Headquarters, Garden Reach with delegates from Iron Ore industry by organizing an Interactive Seminar o­n ‘’Iron Ore by Rail”. The first meeting was held o­n 12th August with representatives from Steel Industry.

Shri Radhey Shyam, General Manager S.E.Railway while addressing the delegates of Iron Ore Industry spoke about the infrastructural development works undertaken by this railway for the benefit of its freight customers. He said that all necessary steps would be taken for timely availability of rakes at iron ore loading points. General Manager stressed o­n co- operation between the iron ore industry and the Railway authorities so that the interest of the industry is not hampered and Railway can meet its loading target. He added that SER has taken all steps to move iron ore traffic in fastest means.

Shri Ambrish Kumar Gupta, Chief Operations Manager, S E Railway in his address said that this Seminar is the appropriate forum through which representatives for the Iron Ore Industry can express their views and seek help from this railway to meet their requirements.Shri Gupta assured them about extending of all sorts of co-operation from the railway side to enhance their business. He also said that, iron ore forms the major chunk (51%) of the total loading target of 134 million tones fixed by Railway Board. However, last year the loading of iron ore suffered due to closure of mines, poor demand of steel plants and other domestic sectors, lack of export etc. The availability of rake will be ensured and there is dedicated wagon to ply within the circuit.

Shri A.K.Behera, Executive Director, Traffic Transportation(S), Railway Board, spoke about Railway’s endeavour to maintain close interaction with the industries. He said that the valued suggestions of the customers would be considered by the Railways. He mentioned thatIndian Railway is capable to meet the demand of this industry .

Earlier, Shri P. Dansana, Chief Freight Transportation Manager, S E Railway while welcoming the representatives of the industry said that iron ore is the main loading commodity of South Eastern Railway and in the current financial year the loading target of iron ore as fixed by Railway Board is 69.69 million tonnes. In the last financial year, the loading of iron ore suffered due to closure of some mines in Jharkhand and Odhisa as per directives of Hon’ble Supreme Court. However, this year South Eastern Railway is taking steps to reach its loading target by improving its infrastructural facilities at its main loading points at Banspani, Barbil, Barsuan etc. In the current financial year up to July, S.E.Railway has loaded 23.75 million tonnes of iron ore.

The seminar was attended by representatives from Tata Steel, SAIL, Adhunik Group, Rungta Mines Limited, Essel Mining, Thriveni Earth Movers, JSW Steel Ltd, Monet Ispat and Energy Ltd., Prakash Industries Ltd., Shyam Sel & Power Ltd., Bhusan Power & Steel Ltd. etc. The delegates from iron ore industry appreciated SER’s initiatives for arranging such type of meet and thanked the Railway Administration for giving an open platform to express their views o­n different aspects and assured to work together for mutual growth. The representatives discussed about freight policy, siding policy and issues related to weigh bridges etc.

The third meeting as a part of SER’s Freight Business Initiative will be held tomorrow(20thAugust, 2015) where all the Cement Companies within the jurisdiction of SER are expected to participate.
