REMARKABLE GROWTH IN SER’s FREIGHT EARNINGS AND LOADING

South Eastern Railway during the first four months of the current financial year i.e. from April 2015 to July 2015 has achieved a remarkable improvement in freight earnings registering a growth of 9.48 %.
During the above period South Eastern Railway has generated earnings of Rs.3444.78 crores from originating freight traffic as against earnings of Rs.3146.60 crores earned during the corresponding period of last financial year (2014-2015), thus recording a remarkable jump of Rs.298.18 crores i.e. a growth of 9.48%.
This remarkable growth in earnings has been feasible, as this Railway has loaded 43.81 million tonnes of freight as against 42.96 million tonnes loaded during the corresponding period of last year, thus registering a growth of 1.98%. South Eastern Railway, during April-July of the current financial year has recorded a growth in loading of Pig Iron & Finished Steel, Iron Ore, Food Grains, Fertilizers, POL etc. The loading of the main commodity i.e. Iron Ore during the above period has been 23.75 million tonnes which is a growth of 3.35% in comparison to the corresponding period of previous year. There has been a growth of 21% in loading of Fertilizers also. However there has been marginal shortfall in loading of Coal, Raw Materials to Steel Plants and Cement due to heavy rains and sluggish demands.
In the month of July, 2015, South Eastern Railway has loaded 10.64 million tonnes of freight as against 10.53 million tonnes loaded in the month of July, 2014 which is a growth of 1.04%. As a result, earnings from freight loading during the month of July 2015has been Rs. 765.21 crores as against Rs. 714.46 crores earned in the month of July, 2014, thus registering a growth of 7.10%.
