S.E.RAILWAY CELEBRATES 69TH INDEPENDENCE DAY

Kolkata, 15th Aug, 2015

The 69th Independence Day was celebrated at S E Railway Headquarters, Garden Reach with gaiety and grandeur.

Shri Radhey Shyam, General Manager, South Eastern Railway unfurled the National Flag, and inspected the ceremonial parade presented by the contingents of Railway Protection Force, S.E.Railway Bharat Scouts and Guides, St. John Ambulance Brigade, Civil Defence etc and also took the salute. While paying glowing tributes to our freedom fighters and gallant Jawans who sacrificed their lives defending the country, Shri Radhey Shyam urged upon all railwaymen to face the challenges confronting the railways unitedly.

Highlighting the achievements of S E Railway, General Manager said that S.E.Railway is predominantly a Freight Carrying Railway and caters to the requirements of major Steel Plants, Coal Fields, Heavy Industries, Cement, Fertilizers, Thermal Power Plants etc.During the first four months of the current financial year, S E Railway has loaded 43.81 million tons of revenue earning freight. Earnings from freight traffic during first four months of current year have been 9.48% more than the corresponding period of previous year.S E Railway is taking all steps to achieve the annual loading target of 134 million tons fixed by the Railway Board, General Manager added.As far as total earnings are concerned, SER has recorded gross apportioned earnings of Rs.4108 crores during the first four months of the current financial year which is 12.1% higher than the corresponding period of last year.

In the passenger front, SER has done remarkably well.This railway has introduced first ever SUVIDHA Special trains from Howrah to Ernakulam (Kerala) with confirmed reservations and more 12 car EMU rakes and more number of EMU rakesfitted with Public Information System.242 Special trains have been running towards different destinations and 4292 extra coaches were attached to the important mail/express trains to give more accommodation to the passengers. Seats in the suburban EMU locals have been earmarked for senior citizen passengers. Special emphasis has been given to upgrade better infrastructural facility for better interface amongst passengers and customers.

Shri Radhey Shyam also said that the punctuality of SER has been satisfactory both in suburban and non-suburban and in mail/express trains.Safety and Security of passengers have got highest priority in S E Railway.All major stations have been covered with CCTV surveillance and 144 mail/express trains, 14 passenger trains, 40 suburban trains are being escorted by RPF/RPSF and GRP personnel.GM/SER stressed o­n conducting more awareness programmes and safety drives. GM also appealed to all railwaymen to continue with the initiatives to improve the cleanliness both in stations and coaches.

Later, Smt. Vinay Kumari Devi, President/SERly Women’s WelfareOrganisation (SERWWO) along with other Members distributed gift hampers to the indoor patients of SER Central Hospital. Baby Care sets were given to the mothers of new born babies of maternity wards. On this momentous day, GM inaugurated a Water Treatment Plant with capacity of 6 lakh gallons at Garden Reach Railway Colony and also inaugurated Burn Unit and renovated Lobby and Waiting Hall at SERailway Central Hospital, Garden Reach. To mark the occasion, a Tree Plantation Programme was organized by S E Railway Bharat Scouts & Guides.
