FREIGHT EARNINGS IMPROVES OVER SER
Kolkata, May 8, 2015 :
During April 2015 the freight loading over SER has been at the level of 10.63 million tonnes, almost same in the corresponding month of the previous year. Though there has been improvement in loading of Coal(5.34%), raw material to steel plants, fertilizer, POL and other goods, there has been drop in loading of cement, pig iron, finished steel and also container for sluggish demands.Freight earning however during April’15 has improved to Rs.871.8 crores against Rs.799.3 crores during April’14 registering an improvement of Rs.72.5 crores i.e. 9.07%.Improvement in earnings has mainly taken place in coal, POL and other goods.
With the opening of iron ore mines in the State of Orissa and Jharkhand, iron ore traffic is expected to increase substantially from the current month onwards.Further, the coal traffic ex. Haldia Port and other goods traffic namely fly ash & slag etc. is also expected to grow on the Railway.Necessary co-ordination is being made with all stakeholders on regular basis to maximize rail loading and rail co-efficient and a special watch is being kept for timely supply and despatch of rakes to build up confidence amongst the trade.
