GROWTH IN SER’s EARNINGS FROM PASSENGER TRAFFIC

Kolkata, 15th October, 2018:

During the first six months i.e. April-September of current financial year (2018-19), South Eastern Railway has earned Rs. 1055.84 crores from originating passenger traffic which is Rs.59.30 crores more than the corresponding period of last year i.e. 2017-18 thus registering a growth of 5.95%.

This growth in passenger earnings has been possible due to increase in number of passengers carried during the first six months of the current financial year. During April-September of the current financial year, South Eastern Railway carried 134.04 million originating passengers as against 129.14 million originating passengers carried during the corresponding period of last financial year achieving a growth of 3.79%. Out of total 134.04 million originating passengers, 69.46 million were suburban passengers while 64.58 million were non-suburban passengers. The growth in number of passengers has been observed both in suburban and non suburban segments.
