REMARKABLE GROWTH IN SER’s FREIGHT EARNINGS AND LOADING

South Eastern Railway during the first nine months of the current financial year 2017-18 i.e. from April to December 2017 has achieved a remarkable improvement in freight earnings registering a growth of 8.95 %.
During the above period, South Eastern Railway has generated earnings of Rs. 8862.58 crores from originating freight traffic as against Rs. 8134.25 crores earned from freight traffic during the corresponding period of last financial year (2016-2017), thus recording a remarkable jump of Rs.728.33 crores i.e. a growth of 8.95%.
This remarkable growth in earnings has been possible as this Railway has loaded 111.35 million tonnes of freight during April–December 2017 as against 109.19 million tonnes loaded during the corresponding period of last financial year, thus registering a growth of 2 %. The loading of the main commodity i.e. Iron Ore during the above period has been 65.23 million tonnes which is a growth of 2 % in comparison to the corresponding period of previous year. The other major commodities where loading have been increased vis. Coal, Pig Iron & Finished Steel, Cement, Food Grains, Fertilizers etc.
In national scenario Indian Railways loaded about 39 million tonnes (mt) extra freight in April-December, 2017 duration.
