                      SOUTH EASTERN RAILWAY CELEBRATES 68TH REPUBLIC DAY

Kolkata, Jan 26th, 2017:

                               The 68th Republic Day was celebrated at S E Railway Headquarters, Garden Reach with due solemnity and grandeur.

               Shri S.N. Agrawal, General Manager, South Eastern Railway unfurled the National Flag and took salute at the colourful Ceremonial Parade presented by the smart contingents of Railway Protection Force, Lady Constables, St. John Ambulance Brigade, Civil Defence,  Bharat Scouts & Guides etc. While paying homage to all our freedom fighters and gallant Jawans who sacrificed their lives defending the country, Shri Agrawal urged upon all railwaymen to face the challenges confronting the railways unitedly.

            South Eastern Railway is primarily a freight carrying railway contributing immensely to the country’s socio-economic and industrial development.  General Manager said that during the first nine months of the current financial year (2016-17), SER has loaded 109.19 million tonnes of freight which is 11.76% higher than the corresponding period of last year. The originating freight earnings upto 10th January, 2017 has been Rs. 8462.40 crores which is almost 8.35 % more than the pevious year.  In the passenger sector too, the growth has been remarkable and passenger earnings registered a growth of    3.85% in comparison to last year. General Manager said that SER has registered total earnings of Rs. 10,598.89 crores in the current financial year which is Rs. 776 crores more than the last year.

            Safety, in railways occupies the highest place and remains the prime concern.  South Eastern Railway never shows any complacency in this regard and we should concertedly work to make the “Zero Accident Mission” a reality – General Manager added.  General Manager also urged upon all railwaymen to be extremely serious in the matter of safety by following rules, imparting proper training, counseling, constant monitoring and regular all round inspection. General Manager also said that RPF personnel of SER has been rendering excellent services but they need to be constantly alert to prevent any loss of life or property taking adequate security measures with help of CCTVs, Surveillance  Cameras, deploying of Sniffer Dogs etc.

            General Manager also highlighted different achievements of SER in passenger amenity works and appealed to all railwaymen to do their best to keep railway premises clean. Toeing the line of Govt. of India’s Cashless Mission, S E Railway takes the pride of introduction of POS Machines for suburban passengers for the first time in Indian Railways. General Manager informed that till date 283 POS machines have been installed at various Reservation Counters and 200 more will be introduced shortly in the jurisdiction of S E Railway.  

            Later, Smt. Surbhi Agrawal, President, South Eastern Railway Women’s Welfare Organisation (SERWWO) along with other members distributed gift hampers to the indoor patients of SER Central Hospital, Garden Reach. 

 

An excellent show involving commando activities was put up by the RPF personnel o­n the occasion. Dance drama and patriotic songs were also organized by the students of Railway Schools.
