RECORD GROWTH IN SER’s FREIGHT LOADING

Kolkata, 13th  October, 2016 :

       

          South Eastern Railway during the first six months i.e. April to September of the current financial year (2016-17) has loaded 70.93 million tonnes of freight as against 65.05 million tonnes loaded during the corresponding period of last year, registering a growth of 9.04%. South Eastern Railway, being the o­nly railway in eastern region, has surpassed Railway Board’s freight loading target for the first six months of 2016-17 by loading 2.19% more than the target.

          During the first six months, loading of Iron Ore was to the tune of 40.94 million tonnes which witnessed a growth of 14.74% compared to the same period of last year. In transporting other raw materials to Steel Plants, this railway registered a growth of 56.70% in the same period. The other major components of SER’s loading were Coal, Pig Iron & Finished Steel, Cement, Food Grains, Fertilisers, POL etc.

           As a result of this remarkable loading performance, South Eastern Railway has generated freight earnings of Rs 5137.11 crores during April-September of current financial year which is Rs 208.71 crores more than the corresponding period of last year, registering a growth of 4.23%.
