SER ORGANISES SEMINAR o­n CLEANLINESS OF RAILWAYS

Kolkata, 23rdSeptember, 2016:

As a part of the observance of “Swachhta Saptah”, a seminar o­n cleanliness of railways was organized at S E Railway Headquarters, Garden Reach, this morning (23/9/2016).

Shri A K Goel, General Manager, S E Railway was the main speaker while Shri Anirban Datta, Addl. General Manager and other Principal Head of Departments took part in the seminar.

The main speaker Shri A K Goel, GM, SER while speaking at the seminar said that sanitation in railways has become a need of time and an important aspect of Indian Railways’  complete success. Sanitation and cleanliness in railways though a hard task can be achieved o­nly by mutual co-operation of railway administration and rail users both. Open defecation o­n and around railway track, unclean toilets, chocked basins, litters in coaches and along tracks are the causes that have compelled the railway administration to put a grave thought  over cleanliness and sanitation in railways. General Manager laid emphasis to continue initiatives for launching “Operation Cleanliness”. Besides, publicity campaigns and education of travelling passengers would also be launched all over S E Railway with a view to keep railway premises clean and hygienic. GM also said that minute changes in habits of passengers can help a lot in maintaining cleanliness as well as sanitation in railways.

Shri J K Saha, Chief Mechanical Engineer said that efforts are being made for all round cleanliness of railway stations, railway premises and trains with a provision of expert cleaning personnel and Safaiwalas. Railways have laid down policies and directives o­n waste management and the quantum of waste generated in railway premises which would enhance the effectiveness of the mechanism of collection and disposal of waste.
