SER SURPASSES RAILWAY BOARD’S

FREIGHT LOADING TARGET

Kolkata, July 19, 2016 :

       

          South Eastern Railway during the first quarter i.e. April to June of the current financial year (2016-17) has loaded 36.48 million tonnes of freight as against 33.17 million tonnes loaded during the corresponding period of last year, registering a growth of 9.98%. South Eastern Railway has also surpassed Railway Board’s freight loading target for the first quarter of 2016-17 by loading 2.64% more than the target.

          During the above period, loading of Iron Ore was to the tune of 21.33 million tonnes which witnessed a growth of 17.39% compared to the same period of last year. The other major components of SER’s loading were Coal, Raw Materials to Steel Plants, Pig Iron & Finished Steel, Cement, Food Grains, Fertilisers, POL etc. Apart from Iron Ore, there has also been record growth in loading of other raw materials to Steel Plants and Cement which increased by 45% and 36% respectively.

           As a result of this remarkable loading performance, South Eastern Railway has generated freight earnings of Rs 2709.27 crores during April- June of current financial year which is Rs 29.70 crores more than the corresponding period of last year, registering a growth of 1.11%.
