SER ACHIEVES HIGHEST EVER FREIGHT LOADING

Kolkata, January 14, 2016 :

            South Eastern Railway created a milestone of loading 7707 wagons in terms of 8 wheelers in a single day o­n 31/12/2015 all over Indian Railways. This is also highest ever loading of South Eastern Railway in a single day as well.

            South Eastern Railway during the first nine months of the current financial year i.e. from April to December, 2015 has loaded 97.70 million tonnes of revenue earning freight as against 90.96 million tonnes of freight loaded during the corresponding period of last year, registering a growth of 6.74 million tonnes i.e. 7.41 %. 

            The major components of this excellent loading performance in the first nine months were 53.83 million tonnes of Iron Ore, 18.86 million tonnes of Coal, 10.59 million tonnes of Pig Iron and Finished Steel, 6.36 million tonnes of Cement, 3.25 million tonnes of Merchandised Goods, 1.60 million tonnes of Petroleum Products (POL) etc.

            As a result of this remarkable loading performance, South Eastern Railway has generated freight earnings of Rs 7523.12 crores during April- December of current financial year which is Rs 604.42 crores more than the corresponding period of last year, registering a growth of 8.74%.

            In the month of December 2015, S E Railway loaded 10.92 million tonnes of freight as against 9.47 million tonnes loaded in December 2014 thus registering a growth of 15.31%. In the iron ore sector the loading has increased by 33% more than the corresponding month of previous year.
