SER GM INAUGURATES 3rd PIT LINE AT PADMAPUKUR & ELECTRONIC INTERLOCKING SYSTEM AT SHALIMAR

Kolkata, October 12, 2015:

Today (12.10.2015) Sri Radhey Shyam, General Manager, South Eastern Railway has inaugurated the 3rd PIT line with 26 coaches’ capacity at Padmapukur to enhance maintenance capacity at Padmapukur in addition to two existing PIT lines of 26 coaches each. This is an effort to accommodate more number of extra special trains for maintenance. During the current festive season with the introduction of 139 pairs of Puja Special Trains demand for maintenance facilities has increased to a greater extent. To provide better, cleaner and improved passenger services, South Eastern Railway has been taking various infrastructural developmental works at Shalimar and Santragachi area.Commissioning of this 3rd PIT at Padmapukur is o­ne of them.

Sri Radhey Shyam today has also inaugurated the Electronic Interlocking System of Train Operation at Shalimar to replace traditional Hand-Lever Frame of Interlocking System of Train Operation. To make train movement improved, safer and speedier this new system is introduced. The introduction of this new electronic interlocking system will give a quantum leap in signalling movement from 25 to 91 signalling routes.This installation leads to centralized operations in place of earlier cabin system.Entire yard has been track circuited which enhanced safety.The new system is provided with VDU (Visual Display Unit) to make train operations more convenient and user friendly.
